Buying the domain name
There are plenty of registrars where you can reserve a domain. Think of a domain as a lease — you can renew it, sell it, or let it expire when an offer comes in.
You head to a domain marketplace to check whether the name and extension you want (.com or .fr, for example) have already been taken.
If it's free, you can reserve it for as long as you like — usually for a few euros a year.
If someone already owns it, you'll need to track the owner down and put in an offer. Beyond the extra cost, buying an existing domain can be a double-edged sword: it carries SEO history — either authority (which helps you rank faster) or a penalty (if the site was ever flagged as spam by Google).
Some of the registrars to know: OVH, Ionos, Godaddy and Hostinger.
